Microsoft Office Access is a relational database management system. You can use it for data which is too complex to be modelled using Excel spreadsheets. With Access you can store data in tables and then define and explore the relationship between the data in different ways. You can assemble your data into a set of related tables, then run your own queries and analyse your data. You can answer questions such as "How many of these items are related to those items?" and "Which are the top 10% scores?"
Access is made available as part of the Microsoft Office suite and also sold separately. From time to time, students can obtain Microsoft Office in a university promotion.
